Privacy policy

This policy explains what Marine Diesel Engine collects when you use this site, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be impenetrable.

The short version

We are an independent information site. We do not sell personal information, we do not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for personal details in order to read anything here.

What we collect

Analytics. We collect aggregate information about how pages are used — which pages are viewed, roughly where visitors are located by country or region, what kind of device is used, and which site referred you. This is used to work out which guides are useful and which are not.

Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request information, including IP address, browser user agent and the time of the request. This is ordinary web server operation and is used for security and reliability.

Anything you send us. If you contact us — to correct a listing, report an error, or ask to be listed — we keep what you send for as long as we need it to deal with your message.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for your name, address, phone number or payment details to use this site. We do not run accounts or logins. We do not buy personal information about you from anyone else.

Cookies

The site itself does not require cookies to function. Analytics and hosting may set cookies or use similar storage. You can block or delete these in your browser without breaking anything on this site.

Third parties

Pages load fonts from a third-party font service, which means that service receives a request from your browser. Our hosting provider processes requests on our behalf. Where we link to a marine business, following that link takes you to their site, which has its own privacy practices we do not control.

Business listings

Listings on this site describe businesses, not individuals. We publish business contact details that the business has made public. If you are a listed business and want your entry corrected or removed, ask us and we will do it.

Your rights under Australian privacy law

Australian privacy law gives you rights to ask what personal information an organisation holds about you, to have it corrected, and to complain if it is mishandled. If you want to exercise any of those, contact us and we will respond. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date below. Continuing to use the site after a change means the updated policy applies.
