Editorial and sourcing policy
This policy explains how Marine Diesel Engine Australia selects evidence, handles uncertainty and keeps commercial information separate from general guidance. It applies to articles, guides, business listings and structured data published on this site.
Our source hierarchy
For specifications, procedures and service intervals, the operator, workshop and installation manuals for the exact engine, gearbox or drive take priority. We then prefer Australian government and regulator material, recognised safety organisations, manufacturer technical bulletins and established standards. Secondary sources may help explain a concept but do not override a current primary source.
Sources must be relevant to the claim. A general manufacturer page is not evidence for a model-specific torque value, and an overseas price is not an Australian market price without clearly stated conversion and assumptions.
Technical and safety claims
Safety warnings are written conservatively. When a symptom can indicate fire, flooding, fuel spray, loss of lubrication, loss of cooling or internal damage, the guide directs the reader to stop and obtain qualified help. Exact fluids, clearances, torque values and replacement intervals should be checked against the serial-number-specific manual before work begins.
We do not describe content as technically reviewed unless a reviewer is identified. The organisational editorial byline is not a substitute for a named credential or an inspection of the reader's vessel.
Prices and business listings
A price range should state its geography, collection date, sample or source, inclusions and important assumptions. Until those conditions are met, we explain the variables that shape a quote instead of inventing a number. Business details are published only from an attributable record and may be removed or corrected on request. Inclusion is not an endorsement.
Any paid referral or commercial relationship must be disclosed where it can influence a reader's choice. Editorial guidance is not sold as favourable coverage.
Publishing tools and AI
We may use software and AI-assisted tools for research organisation, drafting, editing, image preparation, internal linking and quality checks. These tools can make confident mistakes. Their output is treated as draft material and is not itself a source. Claims still require an appropriate primary or authoritative reference, and no tool can inspect a vessel.
Updates and corrections
Pages carry a last-updated date when available. Material changes should be rechecked against current sources; outdated or incomplete directory pages may be withheld from search indexing until their core information is ready. Reports are handled under our corrections policy. You can also send evidence or feedback directly.
